Personal Drum wins Hiskens

Personal Drum wins Hiskens

The Chris Hyland trained Personal Drum was yesterday crowned the nation's champion jumper of the season when he added the $200,000 Hiskens Steeplechase to his Grand National Steeplechase win.

Personal Drum outstayed his rivals to claim the J. J. Houlahan champion-jumper-of-the-year title while jockey Craig Durden was crowned jumps ridings champion rider after piloting the eight-year-old to victory.

Personal Drum became the first horse in nine years to complete the big jumps double in Melbourne and will now be set for the Nakayama Grand Jump in Japan next April, a race won the last two years by the Eric Musgrove trained Karasi.

Yesterday's race proved to be a survival of the fittest with four horses, Manzeal, March In Style and Mookta Heights all failing to complete the course.

Personal Drum won by four lengths from the Robbie Laing trained Busby Glenn, with the Musgrove trained Iggy a further eight lengths away in third place.
