Group 1 Ascot Vale Stakes

The $500,000 Ascot Vale Stakes will become the first Group 1 sprint race for three-year-olds.

Run over the Melbourne Spring Carnival at Flemington, the Ascot Vale Stakes will be the fifth group 1 race on the Victoria Derby day program.

The Sydney Turf Club's Golden Slipper Stakes day is the only other meeting in Australia that boasts five group 1 races on a single day.

The Ascot Vale Stakes is the only Group 1 race for three-year-olds at a distance shorter than 1600 metres.
