Iggy leads all the way to take out St Steven

The Eric Musgrove trained Iggy took out the $45,500 Dominant St Steven Steeplechase (3717m) at Moonee Valley yesterday with an all the way win for jockey Craig Durden.

On a heavy track, the rising nine-year-old fought off the challenge of race favourite Dawson Road who loomed up to win but failed to go on with it after challenging Iggy from the 800 metres.

Dawson Road headed Iggy turning for home when he got up the inside the leader but Iggy fought back to draw away from the John Leek trained Dawson Road in the run to the line.

Runnarchie finished on strongly to claim second one and a quarter lengths behind the winner as Dawson Road weakened to finish a further three and a quarter lengths away in third place.

Durden has already said he will stick with Personal Drum in the Hiskens Steeplechase in a fortnight.
