In form trainer Robbie Laing appears to have a stranglehold on this Saturday's $202,000 Dominant Hiskens Steeplechase (3721m) after accepting with four runners.
His team of four includes Busby Glenn, the current leader in the MVRC Jumper of the Year title, Crisp Steeple winner Manzeal, last year's Dominant Hiskens winner Sissano and up and coming jumper Sir Pentire.
Laing said he is looking forward to this weekend and ending what has been a stellar season on a high note.
"We are excited about the grand finale to the jumps season this Saturday especially now the weather forecast is looking good," Laing said.
Of his four runners Laing rates Manzeal as his best winning chance. Manzeal will be ridden by top jumps jockey Adam Trinder, who travelled to Moonee Valley racecourse this morning to walk the track.
Trinder's father Michael has entered 2004 Dominant Hiskens winner Misty Weather for the race this Saturday. Trinder will bring the horse to Moonee Valley tomorrow morning at 9am to trial him over the modular jumps.
One of the best quality fields seen in many years will contest the Dominant Hiskens on Saturday. The field is so strong that Dawson Road is currently the first emergency.
Also this Saturday in a special promotion supported by Winbet, patrons will get the chance to win a $1000 free bet in the Dominant Hiskens.
Patrons must fill out a tear-out form in the racebook and nominate the horse they think will win the race. The person whose name is drawn from the competition barrel that will be situated adjacent to the modular jump display on the Burston Lawn will win a $1000 Winbet on their selection.
Another highlight this Saturday will be the appearance of exciting prospect Hachiman trained by Brian Mayfield-Smith. Hachiman will line up in race two, the Omega Smeg Handicap for three-year-olds (1200m).
Also this Saturday, the $62,000 Travis Harrison Cup for apprentice riders has attracted a quality field of 13 plus one emergency.
