Les Arcs wins Darley July Cup

Les Arcs wins Darley July Cup

Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Les Arcs scored his second group 1 win in as many starts when he took out the Darley July Cup at Newmarket overnight.

Trained by Tim Pitt, Les Arcs was at generous odds 10-1 despite winning last month's Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Ridden again by jockey John Egan, Les Arcs claimed the leaders at the 200 metres and held off the fast finishing burst of the Godolphin trained Iffraaj with Frankie Dettori aboard.

Les Arcs gave Egan his second consecutive win in the race having scored aboard Pastoral Pursuits last year.

Iffraaj failed to pick up Les Arcs by a head with Ashdown Express a further three quarters of a length away in third place.

Australian sprinter Takeover Target weakened to finish seventh after sharing the lead while Falkirk loomed up at the 200 but failed to go on with it beating just two runners home.
